Why Community?
Social support is one of the most important factors in creating and sustaining positive behavior change.
Positive social connections have been shown to:
- enhance resilience to stress
- decrease the negative impact of traumatic experiences
- moderate genetic and environmental vulnerabilities for mental illness
- alleviate symptoms and onset of depression
Community is an essential aspect of the work we do here at Lifehouse Body and Soul. Together, we learn and practice effective coping strategies to move through all kinds of mental, emotional, and physical challenges.
We focus on listening to and honoring our own bodies and hearts, and how to stop compulsively comparing ourselves to others.
We reach out to one another in moments of stress or tailspin to find connection and support, and fight the urge to isolate.
We make goals to practice these skills and hold ourselves accountable to the group each week.
The impact and value of community to our ability to transform and heal cannot be overstated.
